What
suburb does one live in? I bought the house under the suburb Ferrymead, but the
Council class us as well as Brookhaven as Woolston, mail I receive has one or
the other suburb on it,depending who sends me the letter. I know it goes back to
the history of the area, yes I have become not just a computer geek but now a
history seeking freak.
We had our first official CERA Community meeting last night at the woolston Working Mens club. I wont go into too much detail as when I was writing things down to write up here, the answers were so vague or unsure they were hard to descipher.
It was boring.......no knew info but it was apparent that noone really knows much.
a lady finally spoke up and she was to be heard, she was from Brookhaven, in the same block as me, and her words represented many. I wanted to state my case but they said to stay on the topic, but buggar I had to say something, and I started by saying I speak in support of this lady and others. The conditions around home I stated as fast as I could before they shut me down. She stated I could talk to them afterwards about my position. Woh that is just crap, I have done this over the last 16 months to no avail and I need some energy to get through each day dealing with this and running a computer branch, so many hours spent trying to get answers. What she said was like a blow in the face! I was nervous, but this was mainly due to frustration. Once again I know noone has time for any of us individually as there are too many of us, one of the saddest situations.
90% of those who spoke were from the Ferrymead/Brookhaven block, between Dyers Rd,Linwood Ave, Ferry road, up to the Ferrymead shops.
One speaker stated that they knew many of us wanted to go RED but they cant make everyone happy. I resent that, I love this area now, I wanted to go green, then get on with claims and life, but the Blue TC3 is over our heads. I cannot stand this house now but the area is beautiful from eye level up, just dont look down.
Getting back to the meeting in brief. The speakers were Michelle and Tina from CERA, Bruce form EQC, Malcolm from DBH, Dean from IAG, Steven from CCC, and Peter from Vero/AA I think.
Much of the info near the beginning was relating to TC1 and TC2, until David from the Brookhaven Residents Association got up and asked why are we not talking about TC3, when most of us were in that code. He asked for a show of hands of those in that catergory and from what I could see everyone had their hands up. Good work David, was nearly going to sleep till then.
The talk about the Flood level+ house raising was undescipherable, wont even go into that.
The presentation was information already available on the web, but it was apparent that no certainties were known.
What was apparent was there is great confusion around :
The Geotech reports, area wide vs individual propery Geotech reports
How long before these Geotech reports would be done, which was answered with 'Depends on supply/issues onsite/workload and demand', which really meant depends if there are any available Geotechs.
Land damage assessments, and coverage by insurance companies
Coverage if in an upper right of way (Most residents having different insurers)
If land is found to not be able to rebuilt on, what options there are
Will services continue in some areas
Tonkin & Taylor reports, that no info will be released till the whole of Canterbury is assessed
What happens if you have no land damage/foundation damage, but all your neighbours do, and there houses have to be lifted about the flood level+? They would be worse off.
Frustration over the 450m sq coverage by EQC, the rest not covered
Insurance coverage up to 12 months for rebuilds etc
Whether the floor is part of the foundations when repair needed to be done
And strangely enough, what happens if being in TC3, assessment advised only certain parts of the house needed foundations redone, which would be under the new Building Code, whilst the rest of the house would sink. What rights do we have.
One lady stated that insurance told her the house has to be lifted for testing etc, but seems theres nowhere to move the house! That is one for the records.
One thing I would like to have documented via voice recording was, EQC would pay for land at the Market value as of Sept 4th, NOT GV at 2007. Not sure if thats good or bad yet.
And that is only some of the confusion areas, the others were blurred by the speakers answers or mumbles of a response.
I was quite surprised, as after it finished, a man came up to me to tell me his situation with no sewage and pipe issues. Maybe it was because I got up and spoke my mind, and this gives some people someone they know they can go to to listen to them as an individual, and maybe guidance. I wish I was rich so I could help those who dont have the energy, nor the resources to know their rights etc. Right there and then I wanted to represent him and anyone else, but lifes challenges doesnt allow for time or money to do this.
When I went to walk out the door I banged into a couple of ladies, and we had brief conversations on where we lived etc. Then I met the lady who first voiced her frustrations in the meeting. Funny, because another lady said to me I should join forces with this other lady. I think she may be right. The lady who voiced her opinion is definitely someone I could spend many hours with to share information etc. We exchanged email address, and made contact with her today (15th Nov),sharing with her my blogs and flcikr account so she could see my daily updates and my many pics. I hope to keep in contact with her. there is another blonde lady who has voiced her thoughts at each meeting, and that gives me my courage to stand up.
Just as I was ready to walk down to the door a lady approached and asked if I had spoken to anyone about my situation at which I said I npo longer have the time. She was from CETA and made me feel like someone may listen for a change, and she led me to the CETA table. I met a lady Alana who took my number and said she wanted to come and visit and speak to me to see if things could be made better. I will continue this on my next post as surprise surprise I got some calls form the Council today (15th)...........
