Is your house uninhabitable? Definition please! Relocating warning....Christchurch

So when does one stop paying for a house doomed for demolition?...............Is it uninhabitable, or am I just paranoid?................
I signed my Settlement with Insurance end of January. With the relocating, work and personal events, I had not looked at my bill payments for a while. Two weeks ago while checking my old house, which has become a regular event, I found a mail in the letterbox from Insurance requesting payment for House Insurance for the month coming (May).

I felt the frustrating anger rise in me over the threshold. How could they be requesting payment for a house deemed for demolition? So if there was another quake, I could Claim? Claim for what? It was already a write off!

When I rang them, the answer, as I suspected was, "Sorry we haven't received notification from SR that it has been signed off" Actually the word sorry wasn't said. I was advised to ring SR. As far as I was concerned, they owed me back to Settlement date when I signed my rights away.

I rang SR, they advised me to ring Insurance again as they had signed it off.

That same day, EQCT and the EQC Connects email documented that when a house is signed off, EQC no longer have any accountability. Of course I thought what the last few years of experience with the different factions had taught me, my 'worth' was being pushed under the rug. I know my June Claim is still being argued over between Insurance and EQC.

Looks like when Insurance said it would only be a couple of months wait for the demolition of my house, they just threw the figure out there. Four months later, still no demo date, still no light at the end of the tunnel when I can sell my land.

SR confirmed via email it had indeed been signed off for Cancellation of my House Insurance policy in January. They emailed Insurance for a refund. Of course no notification from Insurance in what was happening about this. Today I received email confirmation that sign off back to Settlement date was January, processed by them in March, then Insurance actioned 3rd May.

I am sure there are many in CHCH who are not aware that this is happening.

So here we are expected to continue paying rates PLUS Insurance. This has caused us financial difficulty, and exasperated by the fact that nothing will change to the two kiddy factions come to some agreement. Then my house may finally be demolished, and I can decide what to do with my land. Well once EQC decide what they are going to give me for the damage.

I dont care if access to info is limited, they are employed to do a job, which has become a joke, throwing our lives between each other while laughing and joking over a beer.

My current battle is to reduce my rates. This is adding to the finance issues, two lots of rates as well takes its toll, leaving me in a bad position for upcoming rates on my new place.

The CHCH City Council advised that to get a reduction I would need to prove my house was uninhabitable.

I didn't realise how hard this simple task is. My Scope of works and OIA state 'Habitable=Yes'.

The last time they visited my house was just after the June quake in 2011. Since the Feb quake I had screwed pipes, which nothing could flow through them, which meant everything went under the house. Two bloody years ago! The shit through the pipes is now rock hard.



If I had the energy and time I would rent this out, and wait for the authorities to say it is not fit to live in with no drainage/water flow, on top of other issues.

I can guarantee I would not be to Code of Compliance to rent house to anyone, yet I still have no official 'Uninhabitable doc'.

I cannot afford to have an official check out the place to confirm this, so it looks like its up to me to send them pics of what the house is really like. Not what they think it is!

My question is, what is uninhabitable? Does the boarded up side of the house which is opening up qualify? Does having no drainage qualify? Or maybe, their response would be for more temporary repairs, which would later be billed to me. All for a house I have no rights to now? Im struggling to see their justification.

Some of my earlier Blogs refer to the Council and events that were found to be their error, yet no compassion now when I need them.

I love CHCH so much, but it seems that nobody cares......................or gives a shit!

And another thing, anything that was worth something to someone in need is wasting away. The heat pumps are stagnating, soon to be obsolete at the rate this is moving. There are people out there who would so appreciate some heating, but no, they must fight to the death at anyone's cost!

My respect for any authority has dissolved to dust. Yet all it would have taken is one person to push your Case, see you as person, not a number in queue.
