Insurance vs EQC - Bad verse Worst, but who is who?

I was struck by the light of realization today.............................
Since relocation to another house in January, I have had no confirmation from prior Insurance company or the Transfer of Insurance to New Insurance company. So I made a call last week, and was asked whether I had filled in a Deed of Assignment. This is the first OMG! The only way I was able to get Insurance in the new place was only if this form was finalized. This apparently was the reason why I had not received any info on the open Claim in the new place. Seems they had misplaced this form. So I re-emailed it to them, and was advised that the Claim team would be in contact with me, still waiting......................

But that's not what this post is about. It is about how I cannot complete an application to the City Council for a Rates rebate on my 'To be demo'd house', without having a 'Write off' date, which I cannot obtain, as EQC and Insurance are going to battle over the house sometime in the future. And from what I learnt today I am rather screwed, completely at the mercy of these fractions.

I went to check the mail at the old house, and low and behold, there was a letter from Insurance requesting next months payment. Huh? I signed my rights away to the house and any Claims, in January. I know that I have to wait for them to stop fighting before I can even sell my land, but to pay for Insurance on the place, is ludicrist! And no, I won't b e paying a cent more to them. I can just see the outcome if there had been a quake in the last month. No, you signed the settlement papers, you have no rights on any further Claims.

When I rang them they told me that the Pod should have advised them to cancel the policy. Yea right! After putting the info from the latest EQC Connects newsletter, with this info, I realized how naive I had been.

EQC Connect newsletter and web site state: For some buildings that have been substantially damaged or destroyed the insurer will suspend or cancel insurance cover. They do this because there is nothing left to insure and insurers may refer to it as a “write-off”.

Once the private insurer has suspended or cancelled the policy, EQC is no longer liable for any new or worsening of damage.

From where I am standing, they owe me from when I signed my rights over (as per Settlement papers, the property is no longer insured and a Direct Debit had been set up years ago, so now it is me that has to make sure the next payument is not sent, but denied) And they don't want to cancel my policy, or make known the house is a 'write off' yet, otherwise EQC would no longer have any bearing or ownership to money.

So where do I stand? Nowhere.

Council say I can claim some rebate on the Rates, but without a 'Write off/Uninhabitable' I have no idea what to write in that field, and Insurance haven't cancelled my policy, seeking Insurance premiums, yet I seem to have no right, but have the front row for all the messups that affect our lives, not theirs. I don't even have a demo date.

I have had plenty of anomosity up to now for these different companies, due to the last two and a half years experience, but now their is so much more anger and frustration. Every day, still trying to deal with one messup after the other takes its toll. We had a life to live before, unaware of how corrupt these companies are, and it is hard disrupting daily life to find out how things are going, only to realize, there has been another F#$%$ up. I have lost all faith in these people, and having EQC Truths represent us, has given me a bit of hope.

And on that subject, how dear they blame EQCT for slowing things down, OMG! It was their people who first leaked the file, sheesh, stop passing the buck! Delay is due to them having to lock down their systems etc, because one of their own leaked info.And at a good guess, the delayed dates, would more than likely have been the 'actual' dates. Dont blame Mr.EQCT!

To finish, for some reason, maybe the fact that I support Mr.EQC Truths, I received two calls from EQC within two days, OMG! OIne for Land at the new place (Had no knowledge of this being active), and one about the OIA.

Yes finally, see my prior Blogs. I applied for my info under the Official Information Act early Nov 2012. Crap, seems it is even going to be couriered to me! Im assuming a bill for the courier will come at a later date.

This info will be interesting, and hopefully the relevant info is not blanked out as others have received.

My heart goes out to all still dealing with these people, and if we can share stories, all the better! xxx
